Education In India
Quality education continues to be expensive in India. A significant divide exists between those who can afford quality private education and those who can’t. While the government is taking strategic steps to increase access to education to all children in India, it will require massive overhaul of the government delivery systems to guarantee quality.

SKS Bodhi Academy

While working closely with poor households in India, SKS identified a huge demand for quality education. To find meaningful ways to serve this gap, SKS initiated a private school chain program to design and demonstrate a successful scalable model in rural education similar to the accelerated microfinance model.

Mission
  • To educate to empower the poor.
Vision
  • To reach out to 2 million poor and needy children through school and vocational education.
Values
  • Right focus : Child First
The child is the centre of Bodhi system. Everything is created keeping the child as the focal point to ensure the best in class learning experiences for Bodhi children.
  • Right means : Empathy Always
The academy places highest value to treating all concerned with empathy – the children and the staff
  • Right way : Consistent Quality
The consistent effort is to ensure high quality education across all Bodhi academies irrespective of location, language. This is to be achieved through standardized class processes, teaching approach, content and methods.

History

SKS piloted the concept of English medium budget schools by setting up 25 learning academies in 2008/2009. The effort was focused to understand parental expectations and demands and also find solutions to challenges in delivering quality education in rural India at scale. The effort was to create a more process based school system to deliver standardized quality irrespective of variances in location dynamics and teacher quality across remote locations.

Out Reach

Today, SKS runs 60 such academies (preschools and primary schools) with 3000 students, 200 staff across 200 villages and peri-urban centers of Nalgonda, Medak, Warangal and Khammam districts of Andhra Pradesh. The program has grown over 6 times in student enrollment in 2010.
